In his 2019 Parade of Homes debut, Justin Howell of J. Howell Custom Home Builder swept the Judges’ Awards and took home the People’s Choice Award, solidifying his company’s experience and excellence in custom home building.

Although J. Howell Custom Home Builder was a fairly new brand in Western Colorado at that time, Justin Howell—its founder and principal— is not new to the craft of custom home building. He has been building homes, along with a reputation grounded in integrity, for over a decade.

Building is in Justin’s blood. He developed a strong work ethic and learned to remain humble and pay attention to detail by working for his father, who owned a hardwood flooring business in the Grand Valley. It was while he was working for his father that he decided he wanted to pursue a career building custom homes— homes that people fell in love with every time they walked in the door.

Justin loves the outdoors, and the qualities that make him a great outdoorsman also make him an exceptional builder. Justin’s deep patience, strong ethics, eye for detail, listening ear, and ability to work hard while remaining optimistic are all traits garnered from time spent in Colorado’s great outdoors, but they are demonstrated with his clients and on the jobsite.

Justin and his wife Liz understand the importance of home. They have made theirs a refuge—a home away from home—for many of the students who Liz works with at Colorado Mesa University. You will often find a slew of university kids at the Howell home on the weekends hanging out, building a swing set, or playing with Liz and Justin’s two young children, Miles and Cassidy.
